What makes summer, summer? Besides the heat and longer days, what is it about summer that you love? Or hate hahaha. For me, the past few years, summer has past me by due to work. It seems each year the demand for attendance and completion of projects MUST be done during summer. COVID of course blew all plans of travel last year and this year the travel industry really is not ready for massive arrival of guests. No matter what they tell you on the news, I can tell you from first hand experience. I have NOT traveled for pleasure, YET that is! Business has taken me to places and I have witnessed the lack of employees, services and restrictions that complicate any stay. I stayed in a hotel for 2 week and nobody cleaned my room. I had to go to the front desk and request towels and toiletries! The front desk, was short staffed as well, so yes, waited for someone to appear before I could make a request. Restaurants? Limited space, limited food choices but so happy to see you walking in the door! People are struggling, businesses too. I suppose, without this period of "patience and understanding" while traveling, the economy would never recover. I should be grateful for my employer, I have never done without a paycheck. Going back to summer. So while I am grateful for my job, I am also getting to the point where I am good to just stay home for a few weeks with day trips locally to renew my spirits. Prioritize I say! Long days on the beach with a great book, packed lunch, of course sunscreen, since I now worry about wrinkling and my toes in the sand. A summers drive along the waters edge along Long Island stopping along the way at wineries, antique shops etc etc.. I am thinking a lunch with my sister is in order at the Greenport Tea Shop where lavish lunches are served on pretty china plates and tea cups. Even a ferry ride to Fire Island for the day, where walking is the only mode of transportation once you arrive. Or! maybe a bike ride and stopping at the Drink Shack for lemonade. That is what I think of when I think of summer. Peaceful nothingness and lazy days of wandering. Until next time ....
