I just came back from a business trip to Des Moines Iowa. Now I am from New York, life in middle America is very different from the hustle and bustle I am use to. While there, and on my jobs dime, I did explore the corn fields and vast farm land that went on for as far as the eyes could see. Small farm homes popped up after 20 or so acres, with silos full of corn, soy beans, and grains. There was something very peaceful about driving for miles without encountering another soul. It gave me loads of time to reflect on not only what I was seeing before me, but how very different my life back home really is. I am totally disconnected from this life style.
I landed in 2 towns. Each over a 100 years old. Quaint, quiet, still. I had lunch in Harlan IA, at a small family run sandwich shop that politely kicked me out because they were closing at 1PM. I found that hard to believe since everything in New York is practically open 24/7. Outside of COVID that is.
During the week that I was there, interacting with the people who live and work in this state, I came to realize I am way to high strung, very suspicious of everyone, competitive and always on guard. I probably come across as bossy. nah, I know I do LOL. I'm a doer, get it done girl. I have a project, let's get to it. Snap Snap. I tend to be the one moving the time lines along. But do I really have to be that way?
Being open to different, whether its the landscape, or the people or even the food! You can always learn about yourself. By the way, Iowa is famous for their PORK. Loads of meals came from the pig LOL! I stuck to salad for the most part. I learned that I need to just be in the moment. Even in the work environment. Be patient. Breathe .... I don't always have to be the leader. This is my new mantra.. easy does it.
